“How do I put a file on my home screen?” Not the first time I’ve heard this question. What’s amazing is that there is no built-in way to do this in Android; you still need a third-party application. Fortunately, it’s a very easy process. For this, you’ll need a file explorer like Astro or ES File Explorer (I’m using the latter) and obviously, enough room on your home screen.
1) Open your file explorer application and navigate to the file you want to put on your homescreen.
2) Long press on the file to bring up a Context Menu. Scroll down to “Shortcut” and tap it.
3) A little confirmation message may pop up. The file should now be on your homescreen.
While it’s a really easy process, Android is on version 4.1, their latest and greatest version of the OS. Users shouldn’t have to go through the hassle of downloading a third-party software to do simple things like putting a file on their homescreen. Hopefully stuff like this will be fixed in the next version of Android.
